SOLOMON KANE

Captain Solomon Kane is a brutally efficient 16th Century killing machine. Armed with his signature pistols, cutlass and rapier, he and his men unleash their bloodlust as they fight for England in war after war on all continents.

As the story opens, Kane and his band of pillagers are carving a bloody path through hordes of defenders in an exotic city in northern Africa. But, when Kane decides to attack a mysterious nearby castle to plunder its rumored riches, his mission takes a fateful turn.

One by one, Kane's men are picked off by demonic creatures until he alone is left to face the Devil's own Reaper--dispatched from the depths of Hell to lay claim to his hopelessly corrupt soul. Though Kane at last manages to escape, he knows that he now must redeem himself by renouncing violence and devoting himself wholly to a life of peace and purity.

His newfound spirituality, however, is quickly put to the ultimate test when he begins his journey across an England ravaged by diabolical human Raiders controlled by a terrifying, masked Overlord

FREE MAGAZINES...FOR YOU....

Children orphaned by AIDS

A calamitous effect of the AIDS pandemic is the vast number of children orphaned by disease. Some 13.2 million children have lost their mother or both parents to AIDS. 95% of these children are living in Africa. As the projects described in this report make clear, stronger commitments and sustainable efforts are urgently needed by the families, communities and children on the front line of the this epic struggle. Human, financial and organizational resources are needed on a massive scale if affected countries are to prevent these crises from completely overwhelming health, education and other basic services and from breaking down million more families.

Melbourne International Film Festival

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) recently unveiled their complete program and boy is it a doozy. Spanning 17 days in August and featuring over 300 feature films, MIFF is Australia’s largest and oldest film festival.

On top of their earlier – First Glimpse and Cannes – announcements, the program is packed with exciting events from the opening night Australian premiere of musical The Sapphires to the closing night premiere of P.J. Hogan‘s (Muriel’s Wedding) latest, Mental, which stars Toni Collette and Anthony LaPaglia. Other anticipated Australian features include Save Your Legs, a Bollywood cricket comedy with Stephen Curry and Brendan Cowell, and 100 Bloody Acres, a local horror pic with Angus Sampson.
American film-maker and comic Bobcat Goldthwait will be a guest of the festival presenting his latest black comedy, God Bless America, while Benh Zeitlin, director of what looks to be the best film of 2012, Beasts Of The Southern Wild, is also visiting.

KOREAN FILM FESTIVAL IN AUSTRALIA (KOFFIA)

The full program for the 2012 Korean Film Festival In Australia (KOFFIA) has just been unveiled. This year's streams include Panorama, Modern Classics, K-Mystery, K-Comedy, Documentary, Animation and Short Films. The line-up is undoubtedly the best since the Festival started in 2010, and fans of Korean cinema will certainly be delighted with the chance to see the latest Korean blockbusters and hits such as War of the ArrowsSunny and The Frontline, as well as thrilled by the opportunity to revisit some of the modern classics like OldboyChristmas in August and Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring, all on the big screen!

Here's what the organizers said about the program:

Panorama
Our Panorama section showcases the latest release films from Korea that have either been commercially successful or critically acclaimed. Presenting a mixture of films from prominent auteur film-makers to first time directors, this year's Panorama is a representation of the current state of the Korean film industry.

We are proud to present 4 Australian and 3 Sydney premieres covering the 7 feature films in the Panorama section, which includes our opening and closing films for the festival. From the Top 2 films of the 2011 Korean box office, WAR OF THE ARROWS and SUNNY, to the competition films straight from this year's Cannes Film Festival, IN ANOTHER COUNTRY and THE TASTE OF MONEY.

The line-up also includes Korea's official submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the Academy Awards, THE FRONTLINE, a black and white tale from Hong Sang-soo, THE DAY HE ARRIVES, and the indie senior citizen romance that swept the nation off their feet, LATE BLOSSOM. We aim to continue developing our Panorama section each year, as we take you on a journey straight to the heart of Seoul.

We encourage all Korean cinephiles alike to sample the films in this section, as it will build your connection to and enhance your understanding of modern Korean film-making and culture.
